Getting from Matfield to Heathrow

How much is a taxi from Matfield to Heathrow?

A taxi from Matfield to Heathrow Airport is a fixed £110 with Matfield Airport Taxis, covering all terminals and agreed at booking rather than metered. Heathrow's own drop-off charge, from £7, is paid at the barrier and is separate from our fare.

Heathrow is a completely different journey from the Gatwick run, even though both start the same way. Drivers leave Matfield on the B2160, join the A21 at Pembury, and head north — but instead of turning west across country, this route commits to the M25 and takes the western side of London to reach the airport spur.

That western stretch is the whole story. The section between the M23 and the M4 is the busiest length of motorway in the country and it does not degrade gently. Between roughly 6:30am and 9:30am, and again from 3:30pm to 7pm, it can absorb half an hour or more with very little warning, and an incident there has nowhere useful to divert to once you are on it.

This is why we build a wider buffer into Heathrow pickups than Gatwick ones and why we ask for your flight time rather than the time you would like to leave. For an early Heathrow departure we will usually suggest setting off before the motorway fills rather than trying to drive through it. Getting that judgement right is most of what a local operator is for.

Rail is a much weaker option on this route

For Gatwick we will happily tell you when the train from Paddock Wood beats a taxi. For Heathrow the comparison rarely gets close. Heathrow sits on the far side of London from West Kent, so rail means driving to a station, parking for the trip, a train into London, crossing the capital, and then a further leg out west — typically two or three changes with luggage. The fixed £110 covers all of that in one vehicle.

Terminals are not interchangeable here

Heathrow's terminals are spread across two clusters and they are far enough apart that arriving at the wrong one is a real problem rather than a nuisance. Terminals 2 and 3 sit together in the central area and are walkable between. Terminals 4 and 5 are separate sites with their own approach roads. All of them cost the same £110 — there is no surcharge for the further ones — but we do need to know which. Your terminal is printed on your booking confirmation and airlines occasionally move, so check the night before.

For arrivals we track the inbound flight and time the pickup against the actual landing. Long-haul into Heathrow means immigration and reclaim can run well past touchdown, so we watch rather than guess. Your driver meets you inside the terminal and helps with luggage as standard.

Heathrow publishes its current drop-off charge, terminal guides, airline-to-terminal listings and live arrivals on its official site at heathrow.com. Those airport-set charges are separate from our fare.

Which Heathrow Terminal Do You Need?

Terminals 2 & 3

The central terminal area, reached through the main airport tunnel. The two buildings connect on foot and by shuttle, so a mistake between these two is recoverable. Most European and many long-haul carriers operate from here.

Terminals 4 & 5

Separate sites with their own approach roads, each some distance from the central area and from each other. Being dropped at the wrong one of these costs a rail transfer and a serious dent in your check-in buffer.

Do you charge more for Heathrow Terminal 5?

No. Matfield Airport Taxis charges the same fixed £110 to every Heathrow terminal, including Terminals 4 and 5 despite their separate approach roads. There is no terminal surcharge, no out-of-hours premium and no surge pricing. Tell us the terminal at booking so your driver takes the right spur.

The £110 does not change for traffic on the M25, the time of day, or a delayed landing. No surge, no night rate, no terminal surcharge. The only extra is Heathrow's own drop-off charge, from £7, collected at the barrier.

How the Heathrow fare compares

Fixed fares from Matfield to all five London airports.

London City (LCY)£115

Why does Heathrow cost more than Gatwick from Matfield?

Distance and the road it uses. Gatwick is a cross-country A-road run for a fixed £77, while Heathrow means going round the western M25 to the far side of London. The £110 reflects the longer journey and the empty return leg your driver makes afterwards.

Vehicle Options for This Route

Saloon

The standard car for the £110 fare. Four passengers with two medium cases and hand luggage between them.

Estate

Same £110, more boot space. Worth asking for on this route in particular, since Heathrow long-haul tends to mean bigger cases than a short European hop.

Minibus

Six to eight passengers in one vehicle rather than two cars, usually cheaper per head. Quoted individually.

How much luggage fits in a standard airport taxi?

A saloon comfortably takes four passengers with two medium suitcases and hand luggage between them. Four adults with four large cases need an estate or a minibus. Tell Matfield Airport Taxis your bag count at booking and we assign the right vehicle — the £110 Heathrow fare is the same either way.

Heathrow Transfer Questions

How much does a taxi to Heathrow cost?

From Matfield it is a fixed £110 with Matfield Airport Taxis, covering up to four passengers in a saloon or estate to any Heathrow terminal. The price is confirmed at booking and does not move afterwards. Heathrow's drop-off charge, from £7, is collected separately by the airport.

Is it better to take a taxi or Uber from Heathrow?

For a village like Matfield, a pre-booked taxi is the more reliable option. Ride-hailing prices rise with demand and a long-haul arrival often lands into exactly that. A booked car is already assigned to your flight number, waits inside the terminal, and holds the £110 whether you land on time or four hours late.

Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in the UK?

It varies by route, hour and demand, which is the point. App pricing is dynamic, so the same journey can cost very different amounts on two mornings. Matfield Airport Taxis quotes £110 to Heathrow regardless. If you are comparing, check the app quote at the hour you would actually travel.

How much does it cost to go to Heathrow by Uber?

We cannot quote another operator's fare, because app prices change minute to minute with demand, weather and driver supply. What we can tell you is ours: £110 fixed from Matfield, agreed at booking, with no surcharge for the M25, the terminal or the time of day.

Can Ubers go to Heathrow?

Ride-hailing does serve Heathrow, but the weak point for Matfield passengers is the village end rather than the airport. Coverage in rural Kent is thin before dawn, which is when many Heathrow departures need collecting. A pre-booked car is assigned in advance rather than requested on the morning.

What is the cheapest way to get to Heathrow from Matfield?

Rail rarely wins on this route. Heathrow sits on the far side of London, so the train means driving to Paddock Wood or Tunbridge Wells, parking for the trip, then two or three changes with luggage. For two or more people the fixed £110 door-to-door fare usually costs less.

Which Heathrow terminal do you cover?

All of them, at the same £110. Terminals 2 and 3 sit together in the central area; Terminals 4 and 5 are separate sites with their own approach roads. Tell us which at booking, because a mistake between the outer terminals costs a rail transfer and a chunk of your check-in buffer.

Is the Heathrow drop-off charge included in the fare?

No. The drop-off charge is set and collected by Heathrow Airport, not by us, and starts from £7 depending on the terminal and how long the vehicle stays in the zone. Your £110 covers the journey. Heathrow publishes the current rate on its own website.

Can I hire an 8-seater taxi to Heathrow?

Yes. We run minibuses for group transfers from Matfield to Heathrow, typically six to eight passengers with a case each. Group fares are quoted individually because passenger numbers and luggage volume change the vehicle needed. Call 01892 308080 or WhatsApp 07741 041293.

What happens if my Heathrow flight is delayed?

Nothing you need to manage. Give us the flight number at booking and we monitor it, then move the pickup ourselves so your driver arrives when you actually land. The £110 does not change because of a delay, and no waiting charge is added on top.

Do you collect from Heathrow for the journey home?

Yes, and the fare is the same £110 in that direction. Your driver meets you inside the terminal rather than in a car park, and helps with luggage. Book the return alongside the outbound leg so both are confirmed and tied to your flight number.

How early should I leave Matfield for a Heathrow flight?

We work back about two and a half hours from a short-haul departure and three for long-haul, then add the drive and a buffer for the M25. That often means leaving before the motorway fills rather than driving through it. Tell us the flight and we set the time.

Do you charge extra for early morning or late night Heathrow runs?

No. The £110 is the same at 3am as at 3pm. There is no night rate, no out-of-hours premium and no weekend surcharge — which matters, because metered and app-based pricing both rise at precisely the hours airport passengers need to travel.

Is it worth booking an airport transfer in advance?

Yes. Matfield has no railway station and limited on-demand cover, so same-day cars are not always available, particularly for early departures. A day or more of notice secures your vehicle and locks the £110. Matfield Airport Taxis takes bookings 24/7 on 01892 308080.
