Getting from Matfield to Stansted

How much is a taxi from Matfield to Stansted?

A taxi from Matfield to Stansted Airport is a fixed £120 with Matfield Airport Taxis, agreed at booking rather than metered. It covers up to four passengers in a saloon or estate. Stansted's own drop-off charge, from £7, is paid at the barrier and is separate from our fare.

Stansted is the only one of our five routes that leaves Kent heading north-east. Drivers take the B2160 out of Matfield, join the A21 at Pembury, run up to the M25 and then go clockwise round the eastern side of London before turning north onto the M11. It crosses the Thames at Dartford on the way.

A different half of the M25 entirely

The Heathrow and Luton runs from Matfield both depend on the western M25 — the busiest length of motorway in the country. Stansted uses the eastern side instead, which carries less commuter load and generally flows better. That does not make Stansted cheaper, because it is further away, but it does mean the two journeys fail in different ways and at different times.

It also means the pinch point on this route is the Dartford crossing rather than a motorway junction. Queues there build at their own hours and clear at their own pace, and a driver who knows that plans the departure around it rather than discovering it at the barrier. That local judgement is most of what you are paying for on a route this long.

Stansted departures start very early

Stansted is the low-cost carrier airport and the low-cost schedule leans hard into the first departure wave. A large share of flights leave between 6am and 8am, which from Matfield means a pickup somewhere between 2:30am and 4:30am depending on your slot and whether you are checking bags.

That hour is the entire argument for pre-booking this route rather than any other. Matfield has no railway station, no train from Paddock Wood runs early enough to be useful, and on-demand cover in a Kent village at three in the morning is thin to non-existent. A booked car is assigned to you the night before at the same £120 it would cost at midday.

It also affects what you should tell us. Budget carriers enforce hand-luggage and bag rules more strictly than legacy airlines, and passengers often end up checking a bag they had planned to carry on. If you are travelling four-up, mention the bag count when you book — an estate costs the same £120 and is a far better journey than four adults wedged around four cases.

There is a single terminal, so there is no wrong building to be dropped at. For arrivals we track the inbound flight and meet you inside; Stansted's late-evening arrivals bank runs heavy and slips regularly.

Stansted publishes its current drop-off charges, terminal information and live flight times on its official site at stanstedairport.com. Those airport-set charges are separate from our fare.

Stansted Transfer Pricing

Matfield to Stansted Airport — fixed fares. Updated September 2026.
VehiclePassengersLuggageFare
SaloonUp to 42 medium cases + hand luggage£120
EstateUp to 4Four cases, or bags checked late£120
Minibus6–8One case each plus hand luggageQuoted at booking

The £120 is confirmed before you travel and does not change for traffic, the hour or a delayed landing — including the 3am pickups this route is full of. Stansted's own drop-off charge, from £7, is collected by the airport at the barrier.

Is it cheaper to pre-book a Stansted taxi?

Yes, and more so on this route than most. Stansted's departure bank is concentrated before 8am, so a Matfield pickup often falls between 2:30am and 4:30am — the hour when on-demand cover is thinnest and app pricing highest. Matfield Airport Taxis holds the fare at £120 whatever time you leave.

Vehicle Options for This Route

Saloon

The standard car for the £120 fare. Four passengers with two medium cases and hand luggage between them.

Estate

Same £120, more boot. Worth requesting on this route specifically, because budget-carrier bag rules push more luggage into the boot than people expect.

Minibus

Six to eight passengers in one vehicle rather than two cars, usually cheaper per head. Quoted individually.

Why Book This Route With Us

  • The 3am pickup is the point. Stansted's schedule forces pre-dawn departures from Kent. That is exactly when on-demand cover fails and app pricing peaks.
  • £120 at any hour. No night rate, no out-of-hours premium, no weekend surcharge. The fare is the same for the 6:10am as for the 2pm.
  • Estate at no extra cost. Ask for it and the price does not change — useful when a carry-on becomes a checked bag at the gate.
  • The Dartford crossing is priced in. A metered fare punishes you for a queue you did not cause. A fixed one does not.
  • Flight tracking both ways. Stansted's evening arrivals run late and slip. We watch the inbound flight and move the pickup ourselves.

Stansted Transfer Questions

How much would a taxi to Stansted cost?

From Matfield it is a fixed £120 with Matfield Airport Taxis, covering up to four passengers in a saloon or estate. The price is confirmed at booking and does not move afterwards, including for the very early departures Stansted is known for. The airport's drop-off charge, from £7, is separate.

Is it cheaper to pre-book a Stansted taxi?

Yes. Pre-booking beats arranging transport on the day, because on-demand pricing rises with live demand and Stansted departures cluster at exactly the hours when supply is thinnest. Matfield Airport Taxis fixes the fare at £120 whether your flight leaves at midday or five in the morning.

How much would an Uber be to Stansted Airport?

We cannot quote another operator's fare, because app prices move with live demand and driver supply. On this route that matters more than most: a Stansted departure often needs a 3am pickup from a Kent village, which is when supply is thinnest. Our £120 is the same at any hour.

Can you Uber from Stansted Airport?

Ride-hailing does operate at Stansted, but the weak point for Matfield passengers is the village end rather than the airport. Coverage in rural Kent is limited and unpredictable before dawn, which is when most Stansted flights depart. A pre-booked car is assigned to you in advance instead.

Which is cheaper, an airport shuttle or a taxi?

Shuttles cost less per seat but none serve Matfield, so you would first have to reach a pickup point in a larger town — by car, at 3am, then park it for the trip. For two or more passengers the fixed £120 door-to-door fare usually costs less once that leg is counted.

What is the cheapest way to get to Stansted Airport from Matfield?

Rail is a poor fit here. Matfield has no station, so it means driving to Paddock Wood, parking, a train into London, crossing the capital, then the Stansted Express — and none of it runs early enough for a 6am flight. For two or more travellers the £120 door-to-door fare usually wins.

Why does Stansted cost more than Heathrow from Matfield?

Because it is further. Stansted is £120 against Heathrow's £110, and the two journeys use opposite halves of the M25. The eastern side that the Stansted run takes generally flows better than the congested western section, but the extra distance is what the fare reflects.

Do you charge extra for a 3am Stansted pickup?

No. The £120 is identical at 3am and 3pm — no night rate, no out-of-hours premium, no weekend surcharge. Given how much of Stansted's schedule departs before 8am, this is the clearest difference between a fixed pre-booked fare and metered or app-based pricing.

Can I hire an 8-seater taxi to Stansted Airport?

Yes. We run minibuses for group transfers from Matfield to Stansted, typically six to eight passengers with a case each. Group fares are quoted individually because passenger numbers and luggage volume change the vehicle needed. Call 01892 308080 or WhatsApp 07741 041293.

How much luggage can I bring on a Stansted transfer?

A saloon takes four passengers with two medium cases and hand luggage. Four adults with four cases need an estate, which costs the same £120. Budget carriers enforce bag rules strictly, so people often check a bag they meant to carry on — tell us the count at booking.

What happens if my Stansted flight is delayed?

Nothing you need to manage. Give us the flight number at booking and we monitor it, then move the pickup ourselves so your driver arrives when you actually land. The £120 does not change because of a delay, and no waiting charge is added on top.

What is the best way to get a taxi from Stansted back to Kent?

Book it before you fly, alongside the outbound leg. The return is the same £120 and your driver meets you inside the terminal rather than in a car park. Stansted's evening arrivals run late, and arranging transport on landing at midnight is the worst time to start.

Do I need to book my Stansted taxi in advance?

Yes, and earlier than for the other airports. Stansted's departures cluster before 8am, so the pre-dawn slots fill first and same-day cover from a Kent village at that hour is unreliable. A day or more of notice secures the vehicle and locks the £120.
