Which London airport is closest to Matfield?
Gatwick, reached on the B2160, A21 and A264. It is also the cheapest of the five at a fixed £77. Heathrow follows at £110, then London City at £115, Stansted at £120 and Luton at £150, which is the furthest from the village.
What is the cheapest way to get to a London airport from Matfield?
It depends how many of you are travelling. One person with time and light luggage can often do better by train from Paddock Wood. Two or more, or anyone leaving before the early trains run, usually pay less door to door — a fixed £77 Gatwick fare split two ways beats two tickets plus parking.
What is the difference between a taxi and a private hire vehicle?
A hackney carriage can be hailed in the street or picked up at a rank. A private hire vehicle must be booked in advance through an operator and cannot legally be flagged down. Airport transfers from villages are private hire work, which is why every journey is arranged and priced beforehand.
Why is a short ride-hailing trip sometimes so expensive?
Because app pricing responds to live demand rather than distance. When few drivers are available and many people want cars — early mornings, bad weather, after a delayed arrival — the multiplier rises. A pre-booked fixed fare is set before any of that happens and does not move afterwards.
Are ride-hailing apps reliable for airports?
At the airport end, generally. At the village end, less so. Coverage in rural Kent is limited and unpredictable, particularly before dawn when most airport departures need collecting. A pre-booked car is assigned to you in advance rather than requested on the morning and hoped for.
Which company is best for an airport taxi?
Judge on four things: is the fare fixed before you travel, is flight tracking included rather than charged, does a real person answer the phone, and does the quote cover waiting, luggage and the return leg. Compare on the total rather than the headline number.
Booking
How do I arrange an airport taxi?
Call 01892 308080 or WhatsApp 07741 041293 with your pickup address, the airport and terminal, the date, your flight number and how many passengers and bags. We quote a fixed fare on the call and set the pickup time from your departure slot. No app, no account, no deposit.
How do I know my booking is confirmed?
A booking is confirmed once we have agreed both the fare and the pickup time with you on the call. Nothing is left open to be settled later, and neither figure changes afterwards. If you are unsure, ring 01892 308080 and we will read the booking back to you.
Do I need to give you my flight number?
Not for a price, but it is the most useful thing you can give us. With it we can see whether your flight is early, on time or delayed and move the pickup ourselves. Without it we are working from a scheduled time that may no longer be accurate when you land.
Should I pre-book a taxi to the airport?
Yes, particularly from a village with no railway station. Same-day cars from Matfield are not guaranteed, especially before dawn when most departures need collecting. Booking ahead secures the vehicle and locks the fixed fare, and Matfield Airport Taxis takes bookings 24 hours a day.
Vehicles & Coverage
Which vehicle will I get?
A saloon by default, which takes up to four passengers with two medium cases and hand luggage. An estate if your bag count needs the boot space, at the same fare. A 6 to 8 seater minibus for groups, quoted separately. We assign the vehicle from the numbers you give us at booking.
Do you serve villages that have no railway station?
Yes, and that is most of our work. Matfield has no station, nor do Brenchley, Petteridge, Horsmonden or Kippings Cross. For those addresses a rail journey to an airport starts with a drive and a car park, which is why a door-to-door fixed fare usually makes more sense.
How far is Matfield from the nearest railway station?
Paddock Wood is roughly three miles from Matfield and Tunbridge Wells about six. Both are close enough that rail is a genuine option for a solo traveller at a reasonable hour — but neither runs early enough to reach Gatwick for a 6am departure, which is when most airport bookings from the village happen.
